OrcaLab Research Centre in BC goes 100% Renewable!

April 25, 2018 marks the completion of the 6kW micro-grid installation at OrcaLab on Hanson Island in BC! A total of $15,000 was raised to help this internally renown research facility complete eliminate its dependence on diesel fuel to go 100% renewable. With a mix of stormy weather that prevented the installation sooner and some lucky sunny days, the construction of the solar PV array, connections to the generator and wind-turbine on site took nearly 2 months to complete. A total of four great ELSE volunteers were able to help make this happen, along with many other members from our supports. Namely Nathan Mosely and Spencer Chaisson aided by Jonathan Game & Jesse Fraser who all worked on the on all the nuts and bolts of the installation.

Thank you to all our supporters in this project, namely Bullfrog Power and Great Climate Race! Veridian Energy Cooperative based in Duncan BC was incredibly generous in their contribution and time resourcing materials and equipment needed and and a big thank you to Mission Critical Energy in Amherst, New York for the donation of the wind-turbine. The new solar panels were donated by Panasonic Canada, and the existing ones by Canadian Solar Industries.
